No, but you will need a conditional offer from 番茄社区 University to take the test.

Yes, you can take the exam from anywhere as long as you have a reliable internet connection and there are no restrictions preventing you from accessing the test from within the country where you want to take it.

You will need:

鈼 A stable internet connection

鈼 A PC or laptop with a webcam and an inbuilt microphone (headsets are not permitted)

鈼 A mobile phone

鈼 A quiet place where you can be alone to take the exam

You cannot take the test on a tablet or phone.

The exam tests all four skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading), but in comparison to the IELTS test, there are differences in the format of the test, and it is taken entirely online.

You will be given a practice reading and writing exam prior to the test. No special preparation is required for the listening and speaking test.

The exam is taken on two separate days.

鈼 The reading and writing test is taken in one session on an online proctored platform. This part of the test takes about two hours plus time to set up. You will need to download an app and set up a webcam, mobile camera and screen share.

鈼 If you pass the reading and writing test, then you will proceed to the listening and speaking test. This is conducted one-on-one with an examiner via Zoom and takes approximately 20 minutes.

The test has a numerical grading system from 1 – 6.

鈼 Undergraduates need to achieve an overall score of at least 3.

鈼 Postgraduates need to achieve an overall score of at least 3.5.

You also need to achieve minimum scores in each component. Some courses have different requirements, and we can advise as necessary.

You cannot retake the exam immediately. The time recommended before resitting will be determined by the score you receive, and we can advise you on this. Three months is the minimum amount of time before resitting. If you do not receive the desired results, we can advise you on taking a Pre-sessional English course.

Single Skill Testing

Single Skill Testing

Single Skill Testing is an option for candidates who have taken an accepted English language test and achieved the overall required score, but fall short in one specific component (e.g., reading, writing, speaking, or listening).

Instead of retaking the entire test, you can take our test focusing only on the component where you didn't meet the requirement. This can be combined with your existing certificate to meet English Language requirements.

You're eligible for Single Skill Testing if:

  • You've achieved the overall required score on an accepted English test
  • You're below the requirement in only one component of that test

If you think you qualify for Single Skill Testing, contact your regional office. They will provide you with more information about availability and how to register.

As well as academic qualifications, you also need to make sure that you meet our English language requirements. This is especially important if you are not a national of a majority English-speaking country or you haven't completed a degree in English.
